ARCHITECTURE HISTORY N THEORY

The history of architecture traces the changes in architecture through various traditions, regions, overarching stylistic trends, and dates. The historical richness creates a very vibrant architectural fabric. However, many historical buildings may face the risk of being demolished to make way for more contemporary buildings. Thus, by recording, documenting and analyzing the buildings, we can contribute to preserving the historical evidence of the valuable historical Architecture.

Project 1(Group):

A4 Booklet and A1 Poster

the colosseum x the pantheon

This project requires us to conduct a comparative analysis of two case studies between historical buildings from one era given. This will familiarize us with the culmination and production of a research analysis through assemblage, chronological arrangements, diagramming exercises, indices and evaluation of information; composing and organization of study; assembly of illustration and text; design layout composition; posters and general presentation.

reflection

In this module, I have learned the chronological history of the developments of Ancient architecture to Western architecture through various lectures and technology applications provided on the module site, especially the AI Tutor Assistance - Walter! I really appreciate this additional application as it made the topic more interesting and interactive.

In addition, the projects given also helped me to deepen my knowledge of architecture. For project 1, l was in a group of 8, we decide to conduct a comparative analysis of two case studies from Ancient Rome which are the Colosseum and the Pantheon. Through in-depth research and understanding of these buildings and architectural elements, we conduct meetings and allocated tasks to each to create an infographic comparative report digitally.  While for project 2, I learned a lot during the research analysis, organization and sketching process of the 5 local(Malaysia) architectural-historical buildings that I have chosen. Throughout the whole project, I have a better understanding of our local buildings especially the elements and principles in each building. Also, I really enjoyed and gained a lot from the final sketching.

Throughout the whole module, we conduct almost our time online. Although the classes were less engaging than on campus, it provides me the chance to reallocate my time to watch the recorded lecture in Times. On the other hand, all announcements were clearly stated in Telegrams, Facebook and also Teams.

Our tutor, Mr. Nicholas gave lots of advice and notes for the assignments and always remind us what we should focus on during the tutorial and also through the Teams' group channel. While Dr. Filzani is also a nice and easy-going lecturer as she always made the lectures more interesting and fun. I really appreciate all the lectures and tutors' efforts and help in this module.
